Extra Virgin Olive Oils: The Essence of Spanish Terroir in Switzerland

Extra virgin olive oil is much more than an ingredient: it is a taste signature, a direct reflection of the climate, soil, and expertise of those who produce it. At Orígenes, we work exclusively with Spanish producers who respect natural cycles and artisanal methods. Each bottle tells the story of a region, a variety, a harvest. We offer you a carefully curated selection of benchmark estates, delivered directly to Switzerland, so you can discover oils that supermarkets overlook.

The Producers We Distribute

Our partners — Castillo de Canena, VillaOlivo, Almazara Terraverne, Pago de Espejo, and Maestros Aceituneros — are not marketing brands. They are families, cooperatives, estates where harvesting and pressing follow a genuine philosophy. Some have been producing for three generations; others refine their technique every year. All share a common demand: oil worthy of the raw material.

How to Choose Your Oil

Varieties make the difference. Picual, robust and peppery, excels on French onion soup or grilled meats. Arbequina, gentler and more fruity, pairs beautifully with white fish and soft cheeses. Hojiblanca, elegant and balanced, finds its place on salads and as a finishing oil. The blends from our producers fuse these characteristics to offer natural versatility, ideal for everyday cooking without compromising quality.

For discerning palates, choose a young oil, harvested early, served at room temperature or very slightly warm: this is where herbaceous notes, hints of almond or hazelnut fully unfold.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between virgin olive oil and extra virgin olive oil?
Extra virgin olive oil comes from the first cold pressing, without refinement. It retains all its polyphenols, natural aromas, and taste complexity. Legal acidity is below 0.8%. This is the only category we distribute at Orígenes.

Picual, Arbequina, Hojiblanca: how do you tell the varieties apart?
Picual offers a peppery, herbaceous flavor, almost piquant on the finish. Arbequina is sweeter, more fruity, with buttery notes. Hojiblanca sits between the two: balanced, slightly herbaceous, with great finesse. The choice depends on your dishes and your palate.

How do you store extra virgin olive oil and for how long?
Away from light, between 12 and 16 °C, in an opaque or tinted container. Away from heat sources and strong odors. Artisanal oil can be stored for 18–24 months. After opening, consume within 6–8 months to preserve the aromas.

Delivery to Switzerland: how long and what cost?
24–48 hours in Romandy, 2–3 days in German-speaking Switzerland and Ticino. Shipping fees vary depending on volume and region; all displayed prices include Swiss VAT. No additional customs fees: we handle customs formalities.
