The story of this house
Plaza del Sol was born from this simple philosophy: to offer products of everyday Spanish life, without detour, without artifice. Established in a region where traditions of snacking and convivial aperitifs are deeply rooted, the house chose to focus on the very essence: well-roasted seeds, salt measured with respect, nothing more.
It's the type of producer that doesn't seek to revolutionize, but to maintain. In Valencia, in Andalusia, everywhere that pipas are a social ritual, Plaza del Sol built its reputation on this quiet constancy, that of brands you find without surprise, and whose very lack of surprise you appreciate.
What made this product unique
Roasted and salted sunflower seeds are never anything more than a simple thing, and that is precisely their singularity: they demand precision. Roasting is a meticulous gesture — too little, and the seed remains floury; too much, and it burns. Plaza del Sol masters that moment when the kernel releases its natural oils, when the flavor becomes dense and the aroma floods the mouth. Salt, meanwhile, has only one function: to respect the seed, to accompany it, never to crush it.
It's an unpretentious product that, precisely, demands a great deal of technique. A 250 g format that reminds us that pipas are not a snack you devour alone facing a screen, but a social gesture: you share them, you scatter their shells on the table, you talk. That's their true singularity — being a product that creates a pause.
How we served it
On the evening table, as a classic aperitif: with Spanish white wine, olives, a little queso fresco. The pipas then become the focal point, the pretext for conversation, the time that stretches out.
In moments of relaxation among friends: poured into a bowl, without calculation, with that beautiful casualness of what is inexpensive and generous. Perfect for gatherings where the emphasis is not on gastronomy but on presence.
Snacking alone too — at the office, while reading, during a break — where they offer this soft mechanical satisfaction, that of keeping hands occupied while the mind escapes.
And naturally, as a summer aperitif, with fresh lemon juice on the side — a drop on the seed that awakens its roasted flavor.
Why it left our Cellar
The natural rotation of the Cellar led us elsewhere. Snacks are a category where we constantly explore new houses, other regions of Spain, other philosophies of roasted seed or vegetable. Plaza del Sol had its moment; it is the perpetual movement of a grocery store that breathes and reinvents itself.
To go further
If you're looking to extend this pleasure of authentic snacking, our Cellar continues to welcome other roasted seeds and simple Spanish preparations — roasted peanuts from other houses, more regional niches, or pistachios that offer a different texture and flavor. We also invite you to discover our other aperitifs in the Snacks & Snacking category, where other Iberian producers offer their visions of sharing and conviviality.
Le Cellier is a living notebook: we archive out of respect but the active catalog evolves. See our current selection in this category → · or browse the complete Cellar.
