Extra virgin olive oil
Extra virgin olive oils: the essence of Spanish terroir in Switzerland
Extra virgin olive oil is far more than an ingredient: it is a signature of taste, a direct reflection of the climate, the soil and the craftsmanship of those who produce it. At Orígenes, we work exclusively with Spanish producers who respect the natural cycles and artisanal methods. Each bottle tells the story of a region, a variety, a harvest. We offer you a tightly curated selection of benchmark houses, delivered directly to Switzerland, so that you may discover oils that the supermarkets ignore.
The houses we distribute
Our partners — Almazara Terraverne (Teba, Málaga) and Finca La Barca (La Vera) — are not marketing brands. They are families and estates where the harvest and the pressing arise from a genuine philosophy. They share a common standard: an oil worthy of the raw material.
How to choose your oil
The varieties make the difference. The Picual, robust and peppery, excels on an onion soup or grilled dishes. The Arbequina, milder and fruitier, accompanies white fish and soft cheeses. The Hojiblanca, elegant and balanced, finds its place on salads and at the end of cooking. The blends from our producers fuse these characters to offer a natural versatility, ideal for everyday cooking without compromising on quality.
For the fine gourmets, favour a young oil, harvested early, served at room temperature or very slightly warmed: that is where the herbaceous notes, the hints of almond or hazelnut, unfold fully.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between virgin and extra virgin olive oil?
Extra virgin olive oil comes from the first cold pressing, with no refining. It retains all its polyphenols, its natural aromas and its gustatory complexity. The legal acidity is below 0.8%. It is the only category we distribute at Orígenes.
Picual, Arbequina, Hojiblanca: how do I tell the varieties apart?
Picual offers a peppery, herbaceous flavour, almost pungent on the finish. Arbequina is sweeter, fruitier, with notes of butter. Hojiblanca sits between the two: balanced, slightly herbaceous, of great finesse. The choice depends on your dishes and your palate.
How do I store an extra virgin olive oil and for how long?
Away from light, between 12 and 16 °C, in an opaque or tinted container. Far from sources of heat and strong odours. An artisanal oil can keep for 18–24 months. Once opened, consume within 6–8 months to preserve the aromas.
